my story

My name is Ziggy Sunaert, and I am a composer/musician with experience in multiple instruments. I have been playing the viola and violin for twelve years and since 2021-2022, I have focused on viola as my main discipline at MUDA Evergem (KSO), studying under Paul Klinck.
In addition, I have been studying bass guitar, cello, piano, and saxophone at the Academy for Performing Arts Utopia in Aalst. Learning different instruments helps me understand how each one works, allowing me to compose pieces that are both challenging and enjoyable for performers.
My passion for music started thanks to my brother, who sang in Shola Cantorum Cantate Domino choir conducted by David De Geest while attending SMI Aalst. When I was eight, I was accepted into the choir as a soprano, which was an exceptional opportunity given my age.
In 2019, after a year of music theory, I began studying composition with Maarten Van Ingelgem at Utopia. I find it thrilling to analyze and break down musical pieces to understand their structure, and even more exciting to create my own compositions. That is why I am currently, studying Composition at The Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, with a focus on game and film music, under the guidance of Mathias Coppens and Steven Prengels.
