Shifted (2024) [1:25]

This project was a collaboration between The Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and Digital Arts & Entertainment (DAE) in Kortrijk, a multi-year winner of Best Game Design & Development School in the World at the Rookie Awards.
As part of this collaboration, Bachelor 3 students at DAE worked on their final projects, and we were invited to compose music for a short film from one of the groups. I had the opportunity to work closely with a talented team on their short film, Shifted. Through in-depth discussions, we crafted a soundtrack that complemented their vision, making this a truly enriching experience.
You can listen to the original soundtrack on Spotify.

Original Score for a Film Project
This composition was created for a film project in collaboration with a student from the Steiner School in Aalst, who requested an original score for her final project. The process provided a unique opportunity to explore various approaches to electronic music.
The film delves into themes of grief, obsession, and emotional isolation, following a man trapped in the monotonous routine of his daily life after the loss of his wife. His obsessive behavior is portrayed through repetitive imagery: the constant spinning of the washing machine, rigid evening rituals and his increasing dependence on alcohol. Beneath these compulsions lies a desperate need for love and acceptance, though his obsession ultimately drives him to ruin.
As the story unfolds, it is revealed that his wife was murdered not out of love, but out of an uncontrollable craving for her affection. His relentless need for validation turned him into a monster, neglecting her needs entirely. In a fit of rage, unable to control his emotions, he took her life. Now, he remains trapped in the aftermath of this tragedy, clinging to the nightgown she wore on the night of her death, fixated on a love that was never truly his. His existence is consumed by this destructive longing, leaving him estranged from any sense of happiness.
